Blackjack Tournaments
What forms a blackjack tournament?
- A blackjack tournament is comprised of a number of rounds.
- Each round is typically between 15 to 30 hands.
- Some tournaments use live money chips while others are played with tournament chips that have no cash value.
- Each table consists of six to eight players who compete against each other in every round.
- Blackjack tournament consists of an elimination format where only one or two players at every table will move forward to the next round. The losers will be eliminated.
- Each round consists of pre-determined hands.
- All players begin the round with an equal amount of chips. At the end of each round, players with the highest bankroll advance to the next round.
- The dealer does not always necessarily start.
- Rather than the dealer always starting to deal at the first seat, a button is placed on the table in front of a player indicating that player is first for this hand.
- The button then moves successively around the table with each hand.
- Thus, the betting and playing order rotates with the button. This also means that players who are required to bet first and act earlier are at a disadvantage.
- Most blackjack tournaments consist of 3 to 5 elimination rounds. Winning players keep advancing till they reach the final round.
- Very Often in smaller tournaments, the first round will be broken up into many qualifying rounds. This ensures that if you do not advance, you can re-enter for another first round seat.
